On 22nd June 2017, the exhibition was officially launched at Manchester Central Library. The event was a huge success. We were delighted to see so many people of different ages and backgrounds coming together to celebrate local accents, dialects, people and places. We were also pleased to host Andy Burnham – Mayor of Greater Manchester and participant in the project – who said that Manchester Voices was very much a project ‘of its time’. As part of the event, three local poets, representing different eras and different perspectives of the life and language of Greater Manchester performed to a captivated audience. Jardel Rodrigues, Sid Calderbank and ARGH KiD were outstanding, and helped to make the evening truly memorable.
